James Kitching is an Australian-Italian lawyer, and the founder and managing director of Kitching Sports, the first specialist sports regulation and business firm in the Asia-Pacific region.
James is a recognised expert in the international sports law industry, with specialised knowledge in football. He advises and acts for all parties connected to the international sports industry.
James is the former Head of Sports Legal Services, Disciplinary and Governance at the Asian Football Confederation, where he spent five years. During his time with the AFC, he managed numerous investigations and prosecutions of conduct incompatible with AFC regulations, including cases of match manipulation, doping, corruption, forgery and falsification, and serious off-field misconduct, both before the AFC judicial bodies and the Court of Arbitration for Sport. He was also responsible for the AFC regulatory framework, drafted event legal documents, oversaw legal matters at AFC competitions and advised Asian football stakeholders on governance matters.
James regularly lectures at conferences and postgraduate degree programmes on matters related to international sports law and business.
James currently serves and has served as a member of numerous disciplinary and judicial panels of international and national sporting federations.
