A world without hunger, where incurable diseases are a thing of the past and clean, affordable, and abundant energy are not only desirable goals, but achievable ones thanks to biotechnology.
Among the professionals who must help achieve these goals, lawyers play a particularly important role. From the incorporation of biotechnology companies, their access to markets, patents, intellectual property, technology transfer, and mergers and acquisitions, to matters such as lobbying before regulatory bodies, lawyers are essential in this constantly growing sector, which has a very high demand for well-prepared professionals.
This dual degree guarantees both top-level legal training—demonstrated by ISDE being the institution with the highest number of students taking the State Bar Exam and one of the highest success rates—as well as specialized preparation with direct integration into the sector.
After the academic phase of these programs, students will complete internships with the aim of turning them into their first job upon graduation, either in law firms or in legal departments of biotechnology companies, across sectors such as pharmaceuticals and healthcare, agriculture, food, industry, and even IT.

STRUCTURE
Two phases:
- Phase One: Classroom instruction:

- During the first semester, students attend classes from Monday to Thursday in the afternoon.
- On some mornings each week, students attend lectures and practical sessions at law firms and institutions collaborating with ISDE, with offices in Madrid.
- Fridays are dedicated to personal study, group work, and workshops.
- Phase Two: Internship integration:

- Mandatory phase. One academic semester of internships within the field of biotechnology and law, at one of ISDE’s partner firms.

Note:
This program is currently undergoing revision to adapt to Law 15/2021 of October 23, which amends Law 34/2006 of October 30, and unifies access to the legal professions of Lawyer and Court Representative, as well as to Royal Decree 64/2023 of February 8, which develops the aforementioned law. Martín Hernández-Palacios es el director del Máster en Biotecnología y Derecho de ISDE, considerado el mejor de España por el ranking del diario “Expansión”.
Hernández-Palacios es abogado en el bufete Alcor Asociados S.L. y ha dirigido durante veinte años la Escuela Internacional de Negocios Aliter, líder en formación biotecnológica empresarial.
Es socio fundador de la Asociación de Comunicadores en Biotecnología, director del foro biotecnología y capital de riesgo, y coordinador del foro de financiación de la innovación. Impulsor del foro mujer y liderazgo en biotecnología, editor del anuario de biotecnología en España y coordinador del diccionario científico-empresarial de biotecnología, patrocinado por Madrid Biocluster.
Además de ser colaborador del Congreso de Científicos Emprendedores, ha sido abogado en el bufete Cámara Legal y asesor jurídico del Ministerio de Obras Públicas, Transportes y Medio Ambiente.

Once the corresponding Program has been completed and ISDE has verified that the STUDENT has successfully fulfilled all requirements, the STUDENT will receive the corresponding qualification for each PROGRAM.
In compliance with current legislation, and specifically with the provisions of Article 4.4 of Decree 84/2004, it is hereby stated that ISDE programs are professionally oriented and, unless explicitly indicated otherwise, do not lead to an official degree, but to an ISDE proprietary qualification.
