The opening ceremony was officiated by the President of ISDE, Jorge Pintó, who was accompanied by the Director of ISDE, Juan José Sánchez Puig, and the Director of the Masters in International Sports Law, Gianpaolo Monteneri. Based on their own experience, and considering the success of former graduates of the programme, they encouraged students to work hard and to take advantage of this opportunity to become outstanding professionals in the world of law and sport.
This new edition of the masters will be taken by some thirty students of 17 different nationalities, from countries as diverse as the United States, India, South Africa, Venezuela and Russia, among others. Such diversity is undoubtedly an advantage for this group of lawyers who –in addition to specialising in sports law- will have the opportunity to meet young people from different countries, experience cultural and personal growth and establish a network of contacts among their fellow students and professors which will be very useful to them in the future.
In their personal introductions, all students highlighted their enthusiasm and delight at having been selected to take part in this Masters programme, as well as their desire to learn and their determination to become elite professionals, taking advantage of the opportunities afforded by the programme.
To help them achieve these goals, ISDE has a faculty of professors with successful careers, who are ready to share their knowledge and experience with their students so that these acquire the substantive knowledge and working methods required to succeed in their careers.
The faculty of professors includes figures from the world of sport like Omar Ongaro, from the FIFA; Efraim Barak, a lawyer and arbitrator at the TAS; Jeffrey Mishkin, former vice-president of the NBA and a partner at Skadden Arps; and José Juan Pintó, Chairman of Pintó Ruiz; to mention but a few of the leading professionals who have come from all corners of the globe to work on this programme.
In his closing speech at the ceremony, Jorge Pintó, as President of ISDE, expressed his hope that the students would be just as successful as the graduates of previous years, and go on to forge brilliant careers for themselves in the increasingly important field of sports law.
